Coastal Alabama Community College Launches Beekeeping Academy at Monroeville Campus

MONROEVILLE, Ala. — Coastal Alabama Community College is buzzing with a new educational opportunity this fall as it launches a Beekeeping Academy at its Monroeville Campus beginning September 24.

 

The eight-week academy, which is scheduled for Thursday nights from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., is designed for individuals interested in learning the fundamentals of beekeeping, whether as a hobby, for agricultural purposes, or to support local pollinator populations.  Participants will receive instruction from experienced professionals and gain valuable knowledge about honeybee biology, hive management, seasonal care, equipment, and best practices for maintaining healthy colonies.

 

The Beekeeping Academy is offered through a partnership between Coastal Alabama Community College, the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries, and Monroe County Extension. This collaborative effort brings together educational and agricultural expertise to provide high-quality training for aspiring beekeepers throughout the region.

 

Classes begin Thursday, September 24, and will continue on Thursday nights through November 12. The registration fee is $45 per person.

 

"Beekeeping plays an important role in agriculture, environmental sustainability, and food production," said Dr. Kelly Palmer, biology instructor at Coastal Alabama and lead instructor of the Beekeeping Academy. "We are excited to offer this new program to our communities and help contribute to local ecosystems and environmental sustainability. 

 

Space is limited, and early registration is encouraged.  Registration opens September 3.
