All of the communities served by the Thomasville campus of Coastal Alabama Community College are invited to the college’s first FutureFest — an event designed to help current and prospective students learn how they can achieve their educational and career goals. FutureFest will be held Thursday, Feb. 27, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Tombigbee Conference Center in the campus’s Administration Building.
"FutureFest is an opportunity for people in the Thomasville region to meet our faculty and staff, all the folks who make the college go,” said Campus Director Marcus Gordon. “Our mission is to help students achieve their goals, and by the end of the night we want people to know what kind of people work at the college, the values that drive us, and to be able to put a face to a name if they ever have questions or need help with anything.”
Gordon said the school’s ambassadors have visited schools and other stakeholders in surrounding counties to spread the news of FutureFest, in the hopes that anyone who could benefit from a Coastal Alabama Community College education attends the event. Individual groups of faculty and staff will have their own tables for the event, with the best decorated table winning a cash prize at the end of the night.
FutureFest will serve two main purposes, Gordon said. The first is to educate the public on the various degrees and programs offered on campus and online, such as career tech and workforce development, as well as transfer opportunities to four-year universities. The second goal is to “show off the campus,” which includes twelve buildings spread over campus and is a significant community asset.
“We want people to know that we want to get you on the right path, get you pointed in the right direction and, hopefully, help you be in a position to really better your life.”
