Historic Blakeley State Park invites nature lovers of all ages to join us on Saturday, April 28 for its first-ever boat cruise to the site of one of the Mobile-Tensaw Delta’s most majestic wonders—the State Champion Bald Cypress tree near Bayou Jessamine. Located deep in the heart of the wild Delta, this ancient tree is the largest of its species in the state and has towered over its serene swampy habitat as silent witness to the passage of centuries. Somehow—perhaps owing to its location—it escaped the loggers’ ax. It is rarely seen in person owing to its remote location, which requires navigating up the Tensaw and hiking overland on foot.
